iOS and Android mobile farms: truly industrializing mobile testing

Key points

  • Hybrid park emulators + iOS and Android physical devices.
  • Large catalog iPhones, iPads, Samsung, Google Pixel, Xiaomi, OnePlus across multiple generations and OS versions.
  • Connected to CI/CD automatic triggering on each push, reports to Slack / Jira / email.
  • Parallelization and traceability Reproducible executions, preserved history, reduced test cycles.

Many teams are still working with a few scattered phones, with no real orchestration, no guaranteed availability and no ability to parallelize executions. That's enough for spot checks. It's not enough to industrialize quality of service. iOS and Android mobile testing.

It is precisely to meet this need that TTC offers its customers iOS and Android mobile farms - an infrastructure designed to truly industrialize mobile testing on a large scale.

Why a dedicated mobile farm?

Mobile testing poses specific challenges not covered by conventional development environments. The fragmentation of devices - screen sizes, OS versions, manufacturers, regional configurations - makes exhaustive testing on a single terminal impossible.

Without a structured mobile farm, teams find themselves testing on the same 3 or 4 available devices, manually reproducing scenarios that could be automated, and discovering bugs in production that should have been detected long before.

A dedicated mobile farm provides a structural solution to this problem. It offers permanent access to a diversified, centrally-controlled fleet of devices, which can be integrated into existing CI/CD pipelines.

A hybrid device: emulators and physical devices

Our mobile farm integrates both emulated terminals - useful for speeding up certain campaigns and multiplying combinations - and real physical devices, essential for validating actual behavior, performance and stability.

This hybrid approach reconciles speed, coverage and realism. Emulators can quickly cover a wide range of software configurations. Physical devices validate what emulators can't: touch responsiveness, memory management in real-life conditions, network behavior, and manufacturer-specific hardware features.

Here are the types of terminals available in our fleet:

  • iOS devices: iPhones and iPads of different generations, covering the main versions of iOS.
  • Android devices: a wide range of manufacturers (Samsung, Google Pixel, Xiaomi, OnePlus) on several versions of Android.
  • iOS and Android emulators configured to simulate specific OS/hardware combinations.

Connected to CI/CD

A real ferme mobile test iOS Android draws all its value from its integration into CI/CD pipelines. It lets you run more tests, more often, on more terminals, with better traceability. It also enables campaigns to be automatically triggered from CI/CD pipelines, and results to be rapidly analyzed.

When executions are integrated into the CI/CD, teams identify regressions, deviations between devices and sticking points before production - not after. This is a fundamental difference in the maturity of a QA organization.

The CI/CD connection also enables :

  • Automatically trigger tests with every push or merge request.
  • Receive results reports directly in team tools (Slack, Jira, email).
  • Keep a running history to analyze trends and regressions over time.
  • Parallelize executions on several devices simultaneously to reduce cycle times.

What this means in concrete terms

  • Speed several campaigns running in parallel, on emulators or physical devices.
  • Reliability stabilized environments, centrally controlled equipment, reproducible performance.
  • Legibility We know what has been executed, in what context, on what devices, with what results.
  • Scalability The park can be extended on request, depending on project requirements.

Our role isn't just to host phones. It's to transform this capacity into measurable, quickly interpretable results.

The TTC approach to mobile testing

At TTC, the mobile farm is not an isolated infrastructure. It's part of a global approach to mobile quality, which includes defining the test strategy, choosing the right test frameworks, and ensuring the quality of our services.’test automation, test data management and results reporting.

Each mobile project benefits from personalized support: we analyze the application's specifics, deployment constraints, target devices and critical scenarios to be covered as a priority. We then build an appropriate test plan, executed on our dedicated infrastructure.

This level of organization enables our customers to regain control of their outsourced business and gain complete visibility over the quality of their mobile applications, build after build.

When to set up a mobile farm?

Setting up a dedicated mobile farm is relevant when :

  • The mobile application is at the heart of the business, and any regression has a direct impact on users.
  • Release cycles are getting shorter, and manual testing is no longer enough to guarantee quality.
  • The team wants to automate regression testing on a representative fleet of devices.
  • Current test coverage is insufficient, and production bugs are too frequent.

If any of these situations apply to you, TTC can help you set up a mobile test infrastructure tailored to your constraints and objectives.
